Tesco and GB Canoeing
GB Canoeing’s first headline sponsor Tesco get on board following a record breaking season of international success.
GB Canoeing are delighted to announce Tesco as their first official headline sponsor for the next two years. Following a record breaking season of medal wins, the canoe sprint and canoe slalom athletes and the sport as a whole, will benefit from the partnership with the nation’s favourite supermarket.
Tesco’s headquarters are in Cheshunt, which is just a stone’s throw away from the white water course that the canoe slalom athletes will be training on day in, day out for the next couple of years.
The announcement comes as athletes get into some heavy winter training, take stock of this year’s medal success and reflect on what is necessary to lead the world of canoeing in what will be an important qualifying year in 2011.
British Canoe Union’s Chief Executive Paul Owen comments,
“We are thrilled to be working with an organisation that is committed to investing in sport and corporate responsibility. This is our first major sponsor and a clear step change for the sport. The successful foundations we are building on the water are helping to secure a sparkling future for canoeing. There are many benefits of partnering with the nation’s favourite watersport and we hope that this relationship will help continue to propel canoeing forward.”
GB Canoeing’s Performance Director, John Anderson comments,
“This is an exciting time to be involved in canoeing in the UK, the coaches, athletes and support staff have stepped up in Performance terms over the past two seasons and we are now one of the top nations in World canoeing. We are consistently winning medals at international competition and this sponsorship will help ensure that we keep on the right track in our quest in the next two years. We are very happy to be sharing our achievements with Tesco.”
Tesco’s Commercial and Marketing Director, Richard Brasher said: “We’re proud to welcome GB’s canoeists as they relocate to our local area, and we look forward to helping them boost interest in the sport as part of our commitment to getting people active. We hope the GB Canoeing Team can achieve the greatest success with our support.”
