Canoe Slalom Committee

The domestic canoe slalom racing season runs from March to October, with over 100 ranking events forming the British Championships, as well as individual events such as the  British Open, Inter Club Championship, the Pan Celtic Cup (an international team competition between England, Scotland, Wales and Ireland), Junior and Veteran Championships, and the respective National Championships.  The races, organised by canoe clubs and Home Nation Associations, in conjunction with the BCU Slalom Committee, extend from grass roots level up to international level events, and are held on natural river courses, on man-made courses (such as Lee Valley White Water Centre) and even in swimming pools.

Most paddlers enter slalom racing through a canoe club, racing locally at division 4, before progressing up through the divisions, moving on to the more challenging waters and courses .

Selection events, for both juniors and senior paddlers, are run by the International Panel annually, in conjunction with GB Canoeing, to select talented paddlers to train under the World Class Olympic Podium and Development programmes.

The World Class structure is designed to provide Great Britain teams for international competitions at junior (under 18), under 23’s and senior level for men and women racing all slalom classes (K1M, K1W, C1M, C1W and C2) . These competitions include World Cups, World and European Championships, and the Olympic Games.
