Andrew makes final 8 at Youth Olympics
The Men’s K1 Canoe Slalom event at the Youth Olympic Games in Singapore got underway on Tuesday 24th August.
Representing Team GB, Andrew Martin competed in the first three knockout rounds in hot and highly humid conditions at the Marina Reservoir.
Andrew overcame fierce competition from Germany’s Tom Liebschier in the third round to successfully progress to the final day of racing. In round four, where four final places were up for grabs, Andrew was knocked out by the eventual winner Simon Brus from Slovenia. Overall Andrew posted the fifth fastest time in round four and although disappointed with the result his spirits were lifted when he realised that he’d taken 2.5 seconds off his previous time.
Andrew said:
"Although it is disappointing to go out of the competition, I am pleased that I made it through to the Last 8 at a Youth Olympics. The whole experience has been one that I will never forget and it has given me inspiration to try harder for the future"
