Day 1 of World Championships abandoned due to high winds - New schedule announced

After the 2010 season of weather affected championships, it has happenned again, Day 1 of racing is abandoned due to high winds. Having completed the first runs of both C2M and K1W classes, the wind had progressively gained in strength and despite a delay to the start of second runs to see if conditions improved, the inevitable decision was made and racing was not only abandoned for the day but in addition all results were scratched.

A Team Leaders Meeting will take place at 9am to confirm the schedule, but the provisional schedule will be that C2M and K1W will race Thursday starting at 2pm. The K1M,C1M & C1W will not race Thursday but all still to be confirmed on Thursday morning.

2010 was the year of rain and floods, let's hope that today is passed and that we are able to get underway with fair racing at the 2011 World Championships. Keep up to date with information here and on the GB Canoeing facebook pages.

GB Canoeing Head Coach Jurg Gotz commented - 'The athletes are naturally disappointed but are showing a very mature and positive approach to these circumstances. Canoe Slalom is about dealing with the unexpected and this is another factor that we have to deal with. Our athletes will be ready when the weather allows fair racing to start.'
