Gold for Great Britain at the Canoe Polo World Championships

On the fifth and final day of competition at the Canoe Polo World Championships in Milan, Italy Great Britain’s Women’s Polo team took the Gold.

After storming through the semi-final against France, Great Britain the reigning World and European Champions were fired up and ready to take on Germany in the final.
In the final Great Britain took control from the start, Ginny Coyles scored the first goal after only 90 seconds. Coyle followed her early goal up with two more making it hat-trick - finishing the first half 3-1 up. Full of confidence and determination the British team worked hard together continuing to dominate play, with another two goals scored from Great Britain, Germany had a lot to do to get back in the game. Germany pushed hard to turn the game around scoring two goals in the final moments. The final whistle went and Great Britain were crowned World Champions and retaining their title – final score 5-3. France took the Bronze.

Great Britain’s U21 Women’s and Men’s teams demonstrated great skill and potential in Saturday’s semi-finals, finding themselves in tough matches playing for the Bronze medal. In a spectacular match against Poland the GB U21 Women won the Bronze medal - final score 5-4 GB. The Men’s U21 team also took the Bronze medal ahead of Italy in a tight match - final score 3-2 GB

Great Britain’s Men’s team finished in 9th – France took Gold, Germany Silver and Italy took the Bronze.
